AGM Report

The National AGM of Tangent Clubs took place on Saturday 17th April 2010 at the Spa in Scarborough. This very brief report will give you information you will need before the minutes are circulated, to Club Contacts, in early July.

The annual capitation fee was set at £4 per capita for 2010-11. Please pass this information to your Club Treasurer, so that she can collect the money, with club subscriptions. Capitation forms will be issued with the magazines in the mailing due to be sent out at the end of May.

President, Jan Mulqueen, was pleased to report that Tangent had raised over £24,000 for her chosen charity and together with 41 Club had handed a cheque for over £140.000 to Help for Heroes She thanked everyone for the generous support. While not a fund raising organization Tangent clubs had donated over £129,000 to charities in the year 2008-09. A great contribution.

Unfortunately most overseas members were unable to attend due to the travel disruption caused by the Icelandic volcanic dust cloud. However, over 150 folk attended and we had 84 voting delegates

Jan Dowling was elected as National Vice-President. She can be contacted on vice-president@tangent-clubs.org and her diary will soon be on the webpage. June Boden was elected as National Treasurer. Her email contact is treasurer@tangent-clubs.org. Her address for capitation fees will be on the form.

The resolution, proposed by Harpenden and seconded by Pinner, aimed at removing the necessity for a vote when there was only one candidate for National Office, was lost.

The National Executive recommendation that the Immediate Past President continues to promote international links with overseas Tangent clubs was carried. We will have an International page included on our website.

The National Executive recommendation that an additional member be appointed to the Executive in the role of Editor and Website Coordinator was carried. This role will be advertised in mailings in the autumn and nominations will be due in by the end of December. It is a three year appointment, as are most Executive positions. The successful candidate will not have to have technical knowledge of the web site as we will still have a webmaster. They will need to be able to organise the style and web content. The webmaster will work closely with the successful candidate.

Gill Preston was inducted as National President. Her chosen charity for the year is Young Carers , part of the Princess Royal Trust for Carers, created in 1991. It is a relatively small charity and so our contribution will be invaluable. There are around 175,000 young carers of which 25.000 are helped by the trust.
