The Legacy & history Team at Sue Ryder provide history talks and presentations to many groups and associations around the country, Tangent clubs in a few areas have been amongst those who have received these talks.
Our talks seem to be very well received by a variety of audiences, and group members find it interesting to learn about the bravery and compassion of the remarkable woman who founded the Sue Ryder charity. Starting as a volunteer with the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry and then with the Special Operations Executive in Poland during the Second World War, Sue Ryder's courage and determination to care for others continues in the charity we are today.
Delivering talks and presentations in local communities helps us to raise awareness and to keep the memory of the inspirational woman who founded the charity alive, often inspiring and motivationg others.
I wonder if Tangent clubs might be interested in receiving such a talk from one of our team members around the UK? If you think this might be of interest would you consider passing on my contact details so that branches can get in touch to enquire about history talks from Sue Ryder.
The International Charity Water Aid is keen to highlight the issues regarding Water and Sanitation and to raise funds for their work in this area in a number of countries around the world.
For those of you whose knowledge of them is limited, they work in the areas of water and sanitation - where people may have to walk many miles every day to fetch clean water or indeed any water at all and where there are no sanitation facilities. Both of these bring disease and death. Water Aid raises money to provide equipments and facilities, to work with local agencies and to educate. As Water is something that we possibly take for granted, I think that helping those who don't is a great cause.
As a charity we are able to arrange volunteer speakers for groups throughout the UK. All speakers are fully resourced and trained and will do their best to give an interesting and informative talk
We can talk about Water Aid generally, or focus on particular areas, it can be as long or as short as you wish. There is no compulsion for any donation or fundraising after although of course anything helps the charity and would be much appreciated.
If you would like to book a speaker, please contact Wateraid HQ as below.
No charge for speakers but a donation to cover traveling expenses is always apriciated.

Dear Madam,
I am interested in offering myself as a speaker to groups in a number of different areas in the UK in particular, Buckinghamshire, the NE of England and the central belt of Scotland and wondered if you could offer any contact opportunities to me as a potential speaker at a meeting or social event?
I am a semi-retired business person and currently the head of development for a period instrument orchestra.
However, it is my hobby that forms the subject of my proposed talk.
My talk is about the range of pearl jewellery that I source in the ‘Pacific Rim’ in pearl markets and which I make myself; I can vary the length of the talk for anytime up to an hour. I trade under the name Tears of the Dragon and my jewellery consists of designer collections of pearls, beads and precious & semi-precious stones. The current talk is entitled ‘A passion for pearls’ and the subject is about the science of pearls, the myths and legends surrounding the history of wearing pearls, from Cleopatra to the present day, the choices to make about the quality of pearls and how to distinguish the real thing from fakes. I am a competent, lively speaker and the talks are entertaining as well as informative. My drama training at University, many years ago, has proved invaluable in that I am confident in front of any size of audience, can improvise, engage and most importantly I can make myself heard! I never use microphones or notes and have never needed either.
I hope this does not sound too arrogant, but so far every group to whom I have given a talk has asked me back for another and/or to become engaged in their other social activities, or other calendar events. Thus, I am building a calendar of tours in different parts of the country where I give talks to a wide variety of groups. I live half my life in Burgundy, France but travel to the UK regularly for talks and to tour with my orchestra – the only connection between my music work and my pearls is the word ‘baroque’ which applies to both!
I bring with me to my talks my jewellery, which I readily hand around to the audience and have found some groups offer me the opportunity to sell goods on the day. I would always offer a donation to any group’s charity if that were the case. I also use the profits from sales at talks to donate to the charity that I support, which is currently building an orphanage for the neglected street children of Durban (another potential talk in itself!)
Currently, I am giving talks to groups such as the National and International Women’s Clubs, Soroptimists and various client nights with London banks, law firms and accountancy firms in Scotland, as well as private house parties and other local events.
At present, I am in the process of developing my pearls business and up-dating my website (www.tears-of-the-dragon.co.uk ) and the new site should be operating from July this year, although the current site is worth a visit, if you have a minute!
I hope this email has provided enough information to take my request a little further and I would be happy to provide testimonials, or to come and talk to any panel that might be established to judge the quality of potential speakers’ presentations.
Thank you for the time you have taken in reading this email and I look forward to hearing from you in due course.

I am writing to you from Breakthrough Breast Cancer in Scotland we are very interested in the potential of getting in touch with Tangent Clubs across Scotland to spread our breast cancer awareness messages and talk more about our work here in Scotland. As a small team (there are only 6 staff outside the research unit in Edinburgh) we rely on the support of groups like your to help us spread the word and where they can offer their own support of our work. We can provide speakers and information on breast cancer as needed. I am sure there will be Tangent club members who have been affected by breast cancer, either directly or amongst their friends and families.
I'd be delighted if you could help us to make these contacts in Scotland and advise if it is appropriate for us to do so. I would also appreciate any advice on who we should contact and what Tangent clubs find most useful and interesting to hear about from a charity that has been in contact with them.
Would you like to learn how to make beautiful greetings cards using the latest products and techniques? Or, perhaps you have some treasured photos you would like to turn into a gorgeous keepsake? Would you like to learn how to make a stunning scrapbook? Maybe you’re already a paper-crafter who wants to take your hobby to the next level.
I am a paper-crafting demonstrator who would be delighted to run a class or demonstration for your group. Classes can be designed to fit in with your schedule and could be up anything from 1 to 3 hours or could start with a short half hour demonstration with an opportunity for members to do some hands on crafting.
You’ll be delighted with how easy and yet how amazing paper crafting can be with Issy’s Crafty Moments.
A 2½ hour card-making class would be £10 per head (includes all materials) no experience necessary.
A paper-crafting demonstration is free of charge and includes materials for attendees to make a greetings card (an opportunity for attendees to place an order and/or book a home demonstration would be expected). Travel expenses would be charged if over 20 miles away from my home (30p / mile).

I would like to introduce you to Treetop House in Sheffield. Treetop House is a ‘Home from Home’ which provides accommodation for the families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. It is one of seven ‘Homes from Home’ run by The Sick Children’s Trust, a small national charity which provides clean, comfortable accommodation for the families of seriously ill children at hospitals in the UK. Our houses allow the whole family to stay together through the terrible crisis of having a seriously ill child. Our aim is to aid the recovery of the children and support the well- being of the family so that they can be close to their loved ones.
I am the House Manager at Treetop House. During April 2010 to March 2011 we supported 167 families from the Yorkshire area, whilst their children were ill in hospital.
Situated in the rooftop of the hospital, Treetop House has just celebrated its 10th Birthday and supports around 670 families a year. The house has 13 private family bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a communal dining area and lounge, a well stocked play area and full laundry facilities. There are also direct telephone lines in all of the family bedrooms, linking them to the hospital wards so that families can be contacted immediately in the event of an emergency. Treetop House is open 365 days a year and can accommodate 13 families a night. Rooms are allocated on a priority basis and are offered to families completely free of charge.
The cost of staffing and maintaining Treetop House amounts to £59,000 a year. We are funded solely by voluntary donations from individuals, companies and charitable trusts.
One of the difficulties we face is gaining awareness of our charity. When we bring a family into Treetop House, this is often the first time they have heard of us. When they are dealing with a very sick child, where they are going to sleep, shower and eat has not entered their heads, but it is something they desperately need, to be better able to deal with their situation.
As I said previously, Treetop House has supported 167 Yorkshire families last year alone. Could you possibly help raise awareness and funds in your area by holding a fundraiser or collection, in aid of Treetop House?
We would be very grateful for any support that you can give. I would be delighted to show you around Treetop House and I would be very happy to provide further information about Treetop House and our work. I can be contacted at Treetop House on 0114 2717176 or by email on ann@sickchildrenstrust.org. Further details are on our website www.sickchildrenstrust.org.
The "Mountain Landscapes" lecture is the story behind making my mountain images whilst making high standard ascents in the European Alps in summer and winter, and high altitude first ascents in the Peruvian Andes and the Karakoram of Pakistan. It usually lasts about 45 minutes, though it can be tailored to individual Club's requirements. It is more about adventure and mountain images, with the occasional epic, than about the technical aspects of climbing. The climbing side of it is understated, and slightly irreverent, and the whole lecture is designed as entertainment. Full details of the lecture and a preview can be found on my website.
The fee is approx £120 plus expenses

After a very successful talk with the Lancaster Tanget recently it was suggested I contact you with details of my talks and demonstrations.
Already an accomplished speaker and demonstrator to many organisations such as the Women's Institute, the Mothers Union, Probus, Round Table and church affiliated groups etc. I would be more than happy to talk and demonstrate to your organisations groups in the north of England.
My talk is entitled The Ancient Art of Origami with Stephen Watson.
I use the art of origami primarily in primary schools throughout the region to assist school children to learn basic maths and geometry in such a way they enjoy the experience and fold some neat animals along the way. It is good to see such an ancient art still has a place in today's 21st century technological world!
The most popular format consists of a brief talk about the origins of origami, its spread around the globe and its use today followed by the opportunity to have a go with a fold-along session and to make something to take home. There is always time for a question and answer session and the chance to take a closer look as some award winning origami on display afterwards.
The evening is conducted in a relaxed and light humoured atmosphere and all materials are provided.
May I invite you to visit my website for further details or feel free to contact me for more information.

The Joshua Tree is a Cheshire-based children’s charity working with children and their families who have been affected by childhood cancer.
The aim of the charity is to build a holiday house and support centre at Sandiway, Cheshire where families can enjoy a stress free break totally free of charge.
The holiday house will cater for up to four families in their own en-suite bedrooms and will include a large open plan dining area. The house will also have a state of the art cinema room, games room, soft play area and plenty of outdoor space for families to explore the local environment.
The holiday house is vitally needed for families affected by childhood cancer as children with conditions such as leukaemia struggle to visit many public places – such as cafes, cinemas and play barns – because of the risk of infection.
The Joshua Tree was set up by Lynda Hill whose son, Josh, underwent treatment for leukaemia.
I am writing to you today to find out if your group would like me to come and speak to your members at a future meeting regarding the fantastic work of the charity or if you are able to release any emergency funds to help us build our Holiday House.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards

The Sick Children's Trust provides quality 'Home from Home' accomodation for families of very sick children receiving treatment in hospital.
The Sick Children's Trust was founded in 1982 by two paediatric specialists Dr Jon Pritchard and Professor James Malpas. They believed that having parents on hand during hospital treatment benefited a child's recovery.
Rainbow House, our first Home from Home, opened its doors to families with children undergoing treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital in 1984.
Today we have seven Homes from Home at major hospitals around the country, each providing clean comfortable accommodation for families with seriously ill children. Our Homes from Home are a place where families can take a step back from their situation and feel safe and relaxed in a welcoming and warm environement. All of our houses have private family bedrooms so family members can get a good night's sleep and communal living and kitchen areas so that families can have some stability of normal family life, sharing a meal or watching a favourite DVD.
There is a growing demand for our 'Homes from Home' as children must increasingly travel long distances to get the specialist treatment they need. To date we have helped more than 35,000 families.
We have 'Homes from Home' in Newcastle upon Tyne, Leeds, Sheffield, Cambridge and three homes in London.
We have three major appeals currently running. The first is to build a new 'Home from Home' at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne which will support the children's heart unit there. Our second is to extend Stevenson House in London to provide more accomodation to support the growing services at the Royal London Children's Hospital and our third is to provide 'Home from Home' accomodation at the Rosie Hospital in Cambridge for families with children in Neonatal Intensive Care .
I would be delighted to have the opportunity to visit any of your
clubs
in the North West or North Wales to give a FREE talk about our
charity.
We are the UK's largest dog charity, caring for more than 16,000 dogs
every year at our nationwide network of Rehoming Centres. We believe
that no healthy dog should ever be destroyed and do our best to find
loving, permanent homes for all our residents. Here at Merseyside we
look after 1000 dogs a year and have over 100 in our care at any one
time.
I can offer a PowerPoint presentation, of any length, about any
aspect
of canine care, although most people like to find out more about the
work we do and what goes on at their local Rehoming Centre. If you
wish, I can also bring along a friendly four-legged resident.

I am the Regional Organiser for the Myasthenia Gravis Association in the north of England and would like to offer to speak to your clubs about myasthenia gravis, a nasty disease which affects approximately 1 in 5000 of the population in the UK.
Myasthenia Gravis, also known as the ‘Ragdoll Illness’ is an auto immune disease which is characterised by fluctuating, sometimes fatal muscle weakness. The body’s immune system, in the form of antibodies, attacks and damages the nerve signal reception areas causing a breakdown in communication between nerve and muscle, which results in a loss of effectiveness of the muscle.
To someone affected by MG it means that symptoms vary according to the amount of activity undergone, the onset of infection, or stress of any kind. As a result diagnosis by a GP is extremely difficult. Also, family and friends need a great deal of understanding to come to terms with a relative or friend who seems perfectly normal one minute, and a few hours, or even minutes later is droopy and listless. Activities taken for granted by most of us, such as eating, moving limbs, speaking or even smiling, become difficult or even impossible at times for Myasthenics.
The Myasthenia Gravis Association is a charity working from its headquarters in Derby through its Branches and representatives across the UK, offering support to Myasthenics and their families, increasing public and medical awareness of the illness, and raising funds for research in order to find a cure. Recent research has resulted in more understanding and better management of the disease but there is still no cure.
MG can start from the age of one year to extreme old age, it can affect both sexes, all races, and rarely strikes twice in the same family. Patients may find their weakness gets worse at times of emotional stress, for example when they are anxious or angry, or before a woman’s monthly period. During pregnancy, few women with MG notice any increase in their weakness, though some may do so for a few months after the birth. Babies born to approximately one MG mother in eight have MG weakness at birth. This ‘neonatal myasthenia’ is caused by transfer of the damaging antibodies to the baby along with all the others that protect it from infections.
MGA receives no government funding and relies on voluntary income for its Research Care and Education programme, supporting sufferers and their families, raising awareness and funding research for a cure.
Talking to your clubs would help to raise awareness of this illness and any support that your members could give MGA would be most appreciated. As the Regional Organiser for the north of England, covering North Yorkshire, Teesside, Durham, Cumbria, Sunderland, Newcastle and Northumberland I believe that I would be able to speak to 26 clubs in this area. In this same area we have 190 sufferers of MG that we are aware of as an association, but we believe that there are many more that have not yet been diagnosed.
My telephone and email contact details are below. I do hope you will consider this request and I look forward to hearing from you. In the meantime if you would like any further information about the Myasthenia Gravis Association please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards

Dr Sue Bates and her partner Matthew Martin deliver talks entitled ‘Protecting Your Assets’ for a wide variety of audiences, including Carers Groups, University of the Third Age, and local church-affiliated groups throughout the Greater Manchester area. The sessions cover Will Writing and Estate Planning, including such topical areas as the establishment of Trusts that can protect property from being sold to fund future care, and the preparation of Lasting Powers of Attorney. Although covering serious issues, these talks are presented in an entertaining way and the length of sessions can be varied to suit each group.
Sessions are free of charge, with any fees being donated to a children’s charity and can be delivered flexibly, to meet the needs of specific audiences. Follow-up one to one review sessions are also provided free to anyone who feels they would benefit from more specific personalised information or a review of their existing documentation. Rates for documents that may subsequently be prepared by our company are extremely competitive and at no point is there any ‘hard sell’.
If you feel that your Tangent Club might be interested in these sessions, we would be happy to provide further information, as well as references from groups and individuals with whom we have worked in the past. Please contact suebates@ntlworld.com

Dear Jan and Terrie
I am writing to see if your organisation may be able to help.I live in North Wales, and have been part of the British White Water Rating team now for over 10 years. We have to win our National Selection event in the UK before we are able to go and represent Great Britain Internationally.
My parents were both members of Ladies Circle / Round Table, as well as now being part of Tangent / 41 Club. I have many fond memories of family days out and events that I attended as a child, and lots of charity events and collections that I would help with.
Over the past five years the Raft Team have achieved huge successes and are now one of the top teams in the World. I would be really grateful if you would have a look at the attached letter to see if there is any chance you may be able to help with the costs of attending the World Championships to be held in Costa Rica this October.
Any support, small or large would be hugely appreciated. I am happy to get a picture in the local press to thank people for donations, or if you would like to donate a larger amount I could come and offer a talk, or even a day out rafting with the team!

Remap is a national registered charity with some 85 area panels. Remap's objectives are the design and construction of aids to meet the individual needs of people with disabilities where such aids cannot be provided by any other means. Although most referrals come to us from the medical profession -mainly occupational therapists - Remap accept them from anyone, including self referrals. All aids are supplied to the client free of charge.
Because we are a little know charity, we know we are not reaching many people with disabilities who may need our help.
Our talks usually begin with a brief introduction of how Remap started, followed by a ten minute video that gives full details of how we operate and shows five of our clients with the aids made for them (the video can be seen on our website. www.remapleics.org.uk). This is followed by a slide show of recent work, that can be adjusted to suit the time available, and leaving time for questions.
For talks given within Leicestershire and Rutland, we do not charge a fee nor do we ask for travel expenses.

I am trained and qualified in a system of emotional healing called T.F.T (thought field therapy). T.F.T is used with the whole gamut of human negative emotions and can quickly bring resolution and healing for those in any form of emotional pain or turmoil.
It is time people became more aware of T.F.T and its potential, so I would like to speak publicly and give public demonstrations of the instant impact that this work can bring. For demonstration purposes I often help people to release phobias, such as spider phobias, or fear of heights as phobias respond very well to just a few minutes of treatment with T.F.T and it is then easy to demonstrate that the phobia has gone (unveil a jar with a spider in, rate clients level of fear from 0 -10, treat the client, re assess their level of fear, once level of fear is zero, introduce spider to client, allow them to handle it.)
I also demonstrate the effectiveness of T.F.T for removing or reducing physical pain, TFT has an instant impact on pain, so is ideal for demonstration purposes.
I work with a wide range of issues including, loss, grief, jealousy, anger, rage, fear, anxiety, trauma, phobias, stress, depression, physical pain, this work is not counselling, it is direct treatment for the condition and involves a system of tapping on certain acupuncture points in specific codes in order to release these feelings. The client will experience rapid changes in how they think and feel about their specific issues.
I would like to speak publicly in The Midlands and Gloucestershire but would consider events further afield.
Please feel free to contact me or look at my website, my details are below;
St Luke's Cheshire Hospice is based in Winsford, the charity was founded in 1988 and the hospice officially opened in the May of that year. We are dedicated to helping people cope with a life threatening illness and its effects on those close to them. At St Luke’s we seek to soothe at every step of the journey helping to enhance quality of life.
The Hospice includes a 10 bedded adult unit, Day Care services, Health and Well Being Clinic and we have also recently opened a new Compassionate Community Outreach Centre specifically for people living in Alsager, Church Lawton, Rode Heath, Scholar Green and Mow Cop.
As the local community fundraiser for St Luke's I am available to give talks on the work of the hospice and the wide range services we offer. My talks focus on what we have done to help patients and carers in times of need and how with the help of organisations such as yourselves we can keep providing the services we do at no cost to patients.
It costs £6420 per day to keep the hospice running, that equates to £4.50 per minute and without the generous support of local groups and organisations we could not continue to provide the services to people living in mid and south Cheshire.
I hope that you could consider us for a space at one of your meetings, I would be happy to speak to any local groups and provide further information to anyone who is interested in fundraising for us.

Birmingham St Mary's Hospice provides expert palliative care to people with life limiting illnesses, with professional medical and nursing care, whilst also meeting the social, emotional and spiritual needs of patients.
Being a local charity, we want to involve as many people in our activities and of course raise as much money for the hospice as possible so that we can carry on providing the fantastic level of support to patients and their families. The truth is, we couldn't do this without community groups. Each year we have to raise 6.6 million, and just over 3 million of this comes from the community.
I recently come across your group online and as a new Community Fundraiser for the hospice; I would really like the opportunity to meet with the local tangent clubs. I would be more than happy to come along to one of your meetings and do a little talk about the hospice.

I offer a service in which I do live demonstrations on Indian cookery and talk on spices and their healing properties. I also offer a chef for the evening service together with Bollywood music and gourmet food for your social events. I have done a few events at the Tangent and ladies circle at Deeping, which included areas like Bourne, and Spalding ladies circles attending. This was a fun filled event and the ladies had a great time.
Fee will vary depending on the services required and how many people we cater for as the nature of my service is I do a cookery demonstration then giving people samples and snacks to eat of the food prepared.

You may wish to consider supporting a small charity which supports the education and welfare of 946 street and vulnerable children in Mathare North in Nairobi, one of the largest slums in the world. The students attend the school ,Brainhouse Academy with nearly 200 street children, actually living in the school. The charity ACEF is involved in feeding the students, enhancing the education, funding health needs, introducing extra curriculum activities like sport, art and music, providing clean water, installing solar panels for electricity and so much more. They are also now running leadership activities here in the UK, linked with volunteer activities at Brainhouse – They are currently linked with small businesses in the Midlands, the Guide Association and several schools where we are developing their CIPD activities. They have always seen our objective of the charity to provide benefit both in the UK and in Kenya.
For a small charity we have huge ambitions and would like to purchase our own land for the school (currently we rent), build a school with appropriate sports fields and dormitories, introduce sustained vegetable gardening to enhance the food intake, provide items such as sanitary towels for our 300 girls. I believe we can do this, but know in reality we cannot do this all on our own.
They are also at the moment developing a possible solution to the number of sanitary towels they need – and this could be a fantastic project to get involved in – as the solution would enable the girls to come to school for a full month (they currently miss at least three days of school a month) and help preserve their dignity.
If you feel all this is something that you or a club you are involved with, would like to get involved in, could you let Liz Formby know whom to approach. She can be contacted at www.acef.uk.com
Catherine, the Community Fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire is very interested in meeting the ladies of local clubs and speaking about what the charity is up to in the region and our future plans. This is an exciting time for the charity regionally as well as nationally what with research developments, new hospices being opened and of course our local Marie Curie Nurses continuing to provide the free and specialised end of life care to terminally ill patients and their families in their own homes.
This year alone our nurses will support 175 patients in Gloucestershire, 114 in Herefordshire and 186 in Worcestershire – however there are many more that we can’t reach. Our vision is that everyone with cancer and other illnesses will have the high quality care and support they need at the end of their life in the place of their choice. Our nurses ensure this can happen.
Like any charity they rely on the fantastic support and help to spread awareness of our cause from groups such as yourselves so would be thrilled to come and talk at one of your meetings about the charity, our aims as well as our humble beginnings.
Catherine would be very grateful for any support you can offer o contacts that can be made with local clubs.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions about the charity.
I’d like to offer the Tangent clubs of Berks, Oxon and Bucks the chance to find out a bit more about their local Air Ambulance. Our red and yellow helicopter operates from RAF Benson, Oxfordshire, carrying a full range of life saving medical equipment. We operate during daylight hours 7 days a week, 365 days a year and can transport a patient to the most appropriate Accident and Emergency, trauma unit or specialist treatment department. We receive no central Government or National Lottery funding so rely completely on community support to keep flying.
We have a range of experience staff and volunteers who would be more than happy to come and give a tangent club talk to one of your groups within the three counties. If this would be of interest please do not hesitate to contact me on the details below and I shall make contact with the relevant people.

So who are we? Oxfordshire Lowlands Search and Rescue Vehicle Appeal Oxfordshire Lowland Search and Rescue (OxSar) is a team of volunteers available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to support the emergency services.
So a little bit like mountain rescue without the ropes and mountains.....RNLI without the life boats......and at the moment without a Search and Rescue Control Vehicle!!!! You never know...just one wrong turn on the Ridgeway and we could be out looking for you!
I am currently training to become West Oxfordshire’s first female Search and Rescue Volunteer Technician and will qualify in July this year. I will also be doing a sponsored climb of Kilimanjaro in June to help raise awareness of OxSAR and raise funds for the appeal.
Our main role is to assist the Police service with vulnerable missing person searches across Oxfordshire and assist other search teams in the surrounding counties. OxSAR is also available to assist the emergency services, county council and other agencies in the event of a major incident.
OxSAR like so many volunteer organizations receives no government funding and is only able to continue our life saving work through the kind support of the public. We are currently applying for charity status, but we need your support to help us achieve this, we need donations and sponsorship to progress our charity application.
Since setting up in July 2008 Isis has assisted on more than 60 missing people searches across Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Surrey and Dorset.
Milton Children's hospice is celebrating its 21st birthday this year and as part of our birthday celebrations we would like to go back to some of the clubs and organisations and thank them for their support over the past 21st years and many of the tangent clubs in Cambridgeshire have raised funds for local children and their families.

I am a speaker based in London, and have had great success since 2008
with a series of talks, based on my musical/operatic and theatrical career.
I should be delighted to bring my talks and presentations to the attention of
Tangent, where I feel sure they will be as well received as they have been to
all the organisations that have seen them; I travel to all the home counties
I am also an associate member of The Professional Speaking Association.
Songs are also included in my talks which are always extremely well received.
I bring CDs for sale, if allowable, from my seven album recording contract. A
proportion of this goes to Cancer Research
I have my own sound system and microphones.
May I invite you to visit my website at www.letthepeoplesing.co.uk which will
put you in touch with my exciting musical background and all the talks. I look
forward to hearing from you at your convenience. Thank you

The Sick Children’s Trust believes that no child should be separated from their family while in hospital receiving treatment for serious illness. Our mission is to provide free, high quality ‘Home from Home’ accommodation for families in this position.
Every day, children are diagnosed with serious and life-threatening illnesses or have terrible accidents that leave them fighting for life. They often have to be transferred to specialist hospitals far from their family home to receive critical medical treatment. The Sick Children’s Trust exists to support and promote the child’s recovery and further to support the fabric and well being of the family as a whole.
The Big Chocolate Tea Party campaign in April is about getting together with friends, family, work colleagues or neighbours over a cuppa and your favourite chocolate treat to help raise money for sick children and their families in their time of need.
Your party can be as big or small, as grand or simple as you want. Whether you raise £5 or £500, every little bit will help keep families together when they need each other the most.

A POLICEMAN’S LOT CAN BE QUITE AN INTERESTING ONE !
Are you looking for an interesting, entertaining and interactive speaker who is a recently retired police officer?
The audience will be able to choose from a combination of fascinating cases which may include:
· When is a bomb not a bomb? : policing Gatwick airport.
· Searching for missing people: the miracle of the lost two year old.
· Dealing with the vulnerable: some poignant or funny incidents.
· The very expensive “sleep-over”.
· Football match policing- the beautiful game?
· Political conferences and the Grand Hotel bombing 1984.
And many more examples detailing the frailties of human nature.
Neil Sadler spent much of his 30 years service as an operational officer in various ranks. He has worked in Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong and Trinidad and even survived Bognor Regis and Crawley!
He will bring along “exhibits”, including equipment and photographs to illustrate his “cases”.
His fee is very modest. East Sussex / West Kent WI approved.

I would like to tell you about the work that we do in the community.
We are Surrey Search & Rescue, a 100% volunteer search and rescue organisation on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a Year. We work closely with the emergency services to locate missing people searching on foot and with specially trained dogs.
We are called out by the Police to help locate the most vulnerable people in our community such as children and the elderly. All of our team members are volunteers who give their time and their knowledge for free.
Although we work closely with the Police and other emergency services, all our work is funded by contributions from individuals, companies and organisations like yourselves. This generous support enables us to keep our volunteers on the front line of searches.
We would like to ask you for your support in this essential work. You may be able to help us in a variety of ways, for instance, with a financial contribution which is put towards the provision of essential items, including high visibility clothing and VHF communication equipment, or, perhaps by helping promoting our services and raising our awareness.
Thank you again for reading this request. We hope to hear from you soon.
I am a solicitor and for over 40 years have been a magician. I am currently a Member of The Magic Circle and have been elevated to the exclusive degree of Associate Member of The Inner Magic Circle with Silver Star - an accreditation held by about only 350 magicians in the world.
I have been a member of Round Table and Rotary International, so I am familiar with service organisations.
For over 30 years I have presented a talk on The History of Magic, which is fun, informative and entertaining with a practical demonstration of different styles of magic. I always have a vibrant Q & A session. I have seven other talks - all with a magic theme, including talks on Houdini, Chung Ling Soo, The Piddingtons, David Nixon and Tommy Cooper.
I have auditioned for and speak to Women's Institute groups in Kent, London, Surrey, Hampshire and Sussex. I have also spoken to U3A groups as well as on cruise ships as an enrichment lecturer.

The Local Crime Community Sentence project (LCCS) is a joint venture by
Thames Valley Probation staff and local magistrates. Its aim is to increase
the knowledge and understanding of courts and what happens to offenders
afterwards.
This is an opportunity for your group to 'be the judge', looking at the
facts of a real case, then deciding whether the person goes to prison or is
given a community sentence. You then hear about what really happened in
that case.
The presentation is absolutely free of charge, lasts about an hour and is
both informative and fun.

Breakthrough Breast Cancer Mid Kent
Hello.
I am the Chairman of the Mid Kent Fundraising Group for national charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Though stated as "Mid Kent" we cover the entire county.
Carrying on from winning the Rochester "local legend" award for my work with Breakthrough, I am starting a campaign for the charity, backed by the Vodafone World of Difference programme to raise awareness about breast cancer in women and men throughout Kent and kick off a parallel fundraising effort.
I will be giving talks and presentations about the work carried out by Breakthrough and letting people know about progress being made in the fight against breast cancer. The talks also let people know where and how their money is spent. (Right down to 10p for a litre of liquid nitrogen as part of the leading Generations Study!)
In Kent 1000 women a year are diagnosed with the disease and 350 sadly loose their lives. The program is poignantly named Project 350.
I understand that many groups or societies have a preferred charity of the year and it would be nice to have an association with Tangent in Kent, however the purpose is to inform with ‘no conditions’. If individuals or groups wish to take up the challenge of raising a very reachable £350 over a twelve month period it will be an added bonus.
Breakthrough Breast Cancer is a pioneering charity dedicated to saving lives and changing futures, through research, campaigning and education - removing the fear of breast cancer for good.
I for one will be lining up to run this year's London Marathon and I would love an opportunity to come along to a future meeting to talk to you about Breakthrough, share information and the odd funny story.
I am writing to offer my services as a speaker at one of your meetings over the next year or two.
I am the Regional Fundraising Manager for Arthritis Research UK, and cover Kent, Surrey, Sussex and South London. I would be delighted to attend one of your meetings to talk to your members about our latest and most exciting research and offer a range of information on all forms of arthritis.
As I am sure quite a number of your members suffer from arthritis, I have no doubt that many will find what I have to share both relevant and interesting. I do not charge for my services, but always appreciate a donation to help the vital research and educational work of my charity, Arthritis Research UK.
Arthritis Research UK is Britain’s fourth largest medical research charity. We are working to take the pain away for sufferers of all forms of arthritis and help people to remain active. We do this by:
· funding world class research
· providing information and
· campaigning
Everything we do is underpinned by research.
I am available evenings or during the day any day of the week from, subject to commitments already in my diary and would be more than happy to meet you and your members.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Yours Sincerely
I’d like to offer the Tangent clubs of Midland^ Back to TOP ^ South East

I would love the opportunity to talk to your clubs in the Sussex and Surrey area - please can you let me know how I could be added to your list of speakers.
I have been an Image Consultant with Colour me beautiful since 2004 and work from my studio near Horsham in Sussex. For your further information - please see my website at www.colouryourstyle.co.uk. As well as individual consultations and workshops, I present to small and large groups. These presentations/talks are interactive, fun and informative and can be tailored to meet your specific requirements. They can include all aspects of colour, style – including style personality and body shapes and seasonal fashions. Most popular topics are:
Colour: How different colours suit different people?
Style: Wardrobes full of clothes but absolutely nothing to wear!
Style Update: Don’t be a Fashion victim – how to interpret the key looks for the Season
As Christian Dior said - "it's not money that makes you well dressed - it's understanding". So learn how to always look good, feel confident and save money.
Do YOU know which colours and styles suit you best? By wearing your most flattering colour combinations and styles of clothing, you will look healthier and happier, and feel more confident. You will also project a much more positive image of yourself. Do you remember when someone last commented on how great you looked? What were you wearing? You'll probably find out that it was one of your best colours.
Just think about all the clothes you've bought over the years that are either rarely or never worn, - why is it that you don't wear something? Maybe you feel the colour doesn't suit you, and it doesn't make you feel good or the fit and style seems wrong.
If you would like any further details on these talks or you have any questions, please do call me. I would love to be a speaker at one of your groups and spread the word on colour and style – giving ladies more confidence to dress in order to make the most of themselves.
So ... you can stop thinking that you have got wardrobes full of nothing to wear and see how to buy less and wear it more...
I work for Thames Hospicecare which is the local Hospice in East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire and I was wondering if I could speak to Clubs in the Wokingham, Ascot, Bourne End and Flackwell Heath and Bracknell and District areas so that I can let them know about the work of Thames Hospicecare and upcoming events.
Thank you in anticipation

Hello. My name is Jacqueline Rance and I am a Magistrate on Reading Bench.
The Magistrates' Association is striving to improve its image and reach out to the public. We have formed Magistrates in the Community. this is not new, but I am new to the role as Bench Coordinator.
We offer talks to schools, associations, clubs. I have worked the Internet to find the names of the associations, but it has not been easy tofind a name to address, so please forgive the omission.
I have brought these talks right up into 2011. We give a Powerpoint 'show' with the talk, all of whichis fun and far from stodgy - an impression we are trying to rectify. We have light quiz'/ Q & A sessions, and more.
I am writing to ask if you would be interested in having a Magistrate give a presentation, as an "After-dinner Talk", which can be tailored to any time constraints.
Tony Parker of Ability Back Chiropractic is offering to give talks on 'Chiropractic - is it relevant to you?' Their purpose: To help as many people as possible, regain and maintain their health - especially children.
Christine Green, a hypnotherapist, Journey Accredited Therapist, Life Coach and Reiki Master, with over twenty years experience in her field. Based in Basingstoke but willing to travel in Hampshire.
The Horsham & Crawley branch is of course part of the well-known national Samaritans organisation but locally has to be financially self-supporting to operate our Horsham branch headquarters and the activities of over 100 volunteers . Our catchment area stretches across West Sussex and links with the work carried out by sister Samaritan branches in Reigate, Tunbridge Wells, Brighton and Worthing .
Our aim is of course to provide confidential emotional support 24 hours a day to people who are despairing, lonely or isolated and who may be contemplating suicide. This happens for telephone callers, face to face callers at our branch , and those who contact us by e-mail.
We would be most grateful if your could consider support for Horsham & Crawley Samaritans within your programme for 2011.
We urgently require wider publicity and a boost to our revenues. In return we can provide literature, promotional items, active volunteers and speakers for any meeting you may plan. We would be very happy to work with you to raise our profile and funding and to give your membership an insight into a very worthwhile voluntary enterprise .
Brendoncare run 10 Care Homes across the South and 61 Friendship and Wellbeing clubs for older people across Hampshire and Dorset. Our clubs are run by a wonderful team of volunteers who plan a varied program of activities to stimulate the members and give them a fun filled afternoon. The activities consist of trips out, parties, informative talks and demonstrations, gentle exercise and fun entertainment like comedians and karaoke. The volunteers will provide refreshments each afternoon, and in some clubs a lunch is provided. Many of our members tell us that their Brendoncare club is the only time they get out of their house to see other people all week. The aim of the clubs is to tackle social isolation amongst older people, helping to improve, their confidence, independence, connection to their local community, and therefore health and happiness.
There is no fee but we would be very grateful for a donation towards the Brendoncare club service to help with our fundraising.

As a Trustee of the du Maurier Festival Society I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the Festival, set in Fowey, is fast approaching and tickets go on sale to the general public on Monday 26th March.
The line-up this year, arguably the best ever includes 3 Knights and a Lord; Sir Terry Wogan, Sir Trevor Macdonald, Sir Andrew Motion and Lord David Owen. Together with stars from radio, screen and stage, journalists, comedians, authors, musicians, arts and theatrical events, walks, talks and workshops the Festival offers so much diversity that there is likely to be something to suit all tastes!
Perhaps you could kindly signpost your members to the du Maurier Festival and to the website, www.dumaurierfestival.co.uk for event and booking details.
Groups might like to take advantage of group booking concessions i.e. when 10 people book the same event this entitles the group to 1 additional complimentary ticket. This rises to 2 tickets for 20-29 people, 3 tickets for 30-39 people. Or there is the Early Bird option which carries 5% discount off tickets purchased prior to midnight on 14th April.
I do hope that this will be helpful to you and your members and thank you very much in anticipation of your support in sharing this information.
Best wishes

You’ve probably heard of Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke. Most people have. That’s because there is hardly a family in this part of the UK untouched by these illnesses.
Like your organisation, we are part of the community. Every penny we spend on research, care, support and health promotion is spent within Northern Ireland for the benefit of local people.
Since we both have the community at heart, we are writing to ask if you would consider helping us to raise funds in your area, or to donate the proceeds of one of your events to the battle against heart disease, stroke and chest illnesses.
The facts are shocking:
More than 20 people die every day from one of these illnesses in Northern Ireland – that’s 7,500 a year
Heart disease and stroke kill more people than all the cancers combined
Stroke is the single biggest cause of disability in our community.
We are the only local charity fighting all these conditions. We run support groups in cities, towns and villages in every county. Last year, we funded research worth £500,000 in our hospitals and universities. This research produces results. For example, one project identified two genes originating in Co Tyrone which were responsible for abnormally high levels of cholesterol. The result: affected families are now able to receive preventative treatment.
This is just a brief outline of the valuable work we do. We would be delighted to meet you to discuss it further. Incidentally, your good work will not go unsung. Many organisations across Northern Ireland have benefited from high profile positive publicity as a result of helping us in the past.
NICHS aims to improve the quality of life for the people of Northern Ireland by preventing and alleviating chest, heart and stroke illnesses.
Our vision is a Northern Ireland where chest, heart and stroke illnesses have been substantially reduced and those affected receive high quality services to meet their needs.
Be part of NICHS events in 2011 and have some fun raising funds
